Shirley Posey is a high school and university educator who was named the 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Axalta Pro Educator of the Year for the Tristate area for her contributions to STEM education. As the co-founder of NeuroAdvanced Academics, Inc., Shirley leverages neuroscience research to improve standardized test outcomes. In this talk Shirley shares her methods for closing the academic achievement gap in underserved communities. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. Shirley Posey has been an educator for eleven years, including her role as a college professor and as Johns Hopkins University CTY Sensory Brain Instructor. She has facilitated 11th grade Biology at Imhotep Institute Charter High School since 2017. Shirley earned her B.S. in Biology from Clark Atlanta University and her Masters in Medical Science from Hampton University. She is the co-founder of NeuroAdvanced Academics,Inc.,an educational firm using neuroscience based practices to enhance academic learning and to facilitate Professional Development for educators.
