Have you ever wondered what the way you do your laundry can tell about you? Houry tells her story of how she became fascinated with laundry lines and reveals her amazing findings, which she discovered after observing the laundry for over 10 years in 10 different cities. Houry Pilibbossian is an aspiring photographer and filmmaker of Syrian-Armenian origins. She pursued her B.A. in English and Communications at the American University of Armenia, where her oral history-based capstone (titled The Olive Branch) explored matrilineal stories of grandmothers, mothers and daughters through the lenses of culinary traditions and feminism. In the past two years Houry has been a TA at AUA for the Oral History: Collecting Life Stories course. Currently, she is a TA for the Comparative Education course. She is also a research assistant in a collaborative oral history project mapping traces and memories of genocide in Armenia’s urban landscapes. Houry’s creative work focuses on linking mundane daily activities with social and cultural research. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
