Plastic pollution and food insecurity are two of the most pressing social and environmental challenges we face today. Luckily for us, some of our small insect friends are willing and able to help us find solutions. George Shenusay is a New Yorker who has moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for sustainability. He accidentally inbread thousands of mealworms in middle school and now he’s found himself here. He’s studying environmental science at UCLA and is currently leading a research team with a focus on mealworms and their ability to eat plastic. George and his research team currently do their work at UCLA’s MIC (Molecular Instrumentation Center) and the BHS lab. They have been working on this project since 2018. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
