Inequality of investment opportunity has been a large contributor to the growing wealth gap in the last two decades. The financial markets have changed and it has resulted in innovative companies staying private longer and longer, which has transferred billions of dollars of wealth from the public markets to the private markets. In the public markets, the wealth generated can be shared by everyone, whereas in the private markets, the wealth is consolidated and concentrated with those who already had wealth. The newly formed JOBS act may be the solution to this growing problem, as this new legislation has empowered all investors, regardless of wealth, to transact online to invest in innovative private companies.

Jason is the founder and CEO of Netcapital, and has been mentoring, advising, and investing in early-stage companies to help them raise their first capital for over 3 years. He founded Netcapital to reduce the systemic inefficiencies he saw in the way early-stage companies access capital through his experience as a coach and mentor. Jason has a background in life sciences and has previously conducted research in medical oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and cognitive neuroscience at the University of Miami, where he graduated from.
