At an age when most high school students are busy with homework and college applications, Pankhuri Dayal is the founder of Modern Migrants - an organization that is helping migrants in Hong Kong who were displaced during the pandemic find new livelihoods. In this talk, she shares how her work has uplifted marginalized communities and shares advice for would-be student changemakers. Pankhuri Dayal, 18, is a Grade 12 student at Milton Academy. She grew up in Hong Kong, where she has been working with underprivileged communities, especially migrant and minorities, at a grassroot level for 5 years now. She is the founder of ModernMigrants, a nonprofit based in Hong Kong that helps up skill migrants who lost their jobs in the pandemic by organizing online workshops led by industry professionals and professors from top universitiea. She worked with disadvantaged children from local schools to improve their English language skills and confidence in spoken English. Additionally, she fundraised for Kids4Kids, a youth organisation aimed at literacy development and empowering the next generation to help them break their families out of the poverty cycle. In Boston, she has continued her work by teaching coding to the young residents of Refuge Centre for women and their children fleeing abuse and homelessness.
