Sustainable agriculture. Seth Watkins is a fourth-generation steward of his family’s farm, called Pinhook Farm, near Clarinda, Iowa. Seth is passionate about stewardship of land and natural resources (especially water quality and the restoration of prairie, woodlands, and riparian corridors) and producing an equitable food system. By using and teaching conservation practices, Seth promotes healthy and diverse landscapes for future generations. Seth’s overall mission of building a food system that values equality – including inclusion and accessibility – combined with stewardship are what he sees as being essential to preventing shortages of nutritious food and clean water. He serves on the board for several nonprofit conservation organizations including the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, the Golden Hills RC&D in rural western Iowa, and the Iowa Learning Farms which is run by Iowa State University in Ames. Seth lives with his wife, Christy, and their two young children, Spencer and Tatum. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
