While Bethany Downer was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, she’s working on some fairly significant travel goals: namely, to become the first Newfoundlander in space within the next five years.

As a science communications and public outreach professional within the aerospace industry, Bethany’s mission is to help create passionate, informed community connections to rocket science and space. Bethany has spoken at previous TEDx events, but this is her first time taking the stage to share her story with audiences in Newfoundland and Labrador.

On the TEDxHarboursidePark 2021 stage, Bethany challenges — and inspires — audiences to “think bigger” through the lens of how we’ve traditionally framed the collective existence and relevance in relation to space, astronomy, and the infinite possibilities that exist outside the atmosphere.
