Karissa Kruse helps understand why it is so critical to combine a focus on the present with preparing for what is next. She passionately shares her experience of losing her home in the Tubbs fire and how that crystalized her philosophy of not waiting to enjoy life, and how that loss energized her to further the Sonoma County Wine Grower's commitment to sustainability. As president of the Sonoma County Winegrowers, a marketing/educational organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Sonoma County as one of the world’s premier grape-growing regions, Karissa has guided the strategy and implementation of Sonoma County becoming the most sustainable wine region in the world. Karissa is a forward-thinking leader who continues to innovate in areas of climate farming, ag preservation, and social sustainability. Her numerous awards include being named to the Organic Authority’s List of “Badass Disruptors Changing Your Food System” and Food & Wine magazine’s most Innovative Women in Food & Drink. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
