Robby Williams’ TEDx Talk explores the ways dance and disability meet, combining movement and spoken word. This performance illustrates one person’s inner monologue as they explore how and why societal norms isolate and alienate. Robby Williams, a member of the MOMENTA Dance Company, combines movement and spoken word to create powerful performance pieces. Prior to a gunshot wound two years ago that damaged his spinal cord, Robby was dancing the Tango and Lindy and was a fitness coach-in-training. After becoming a wheelchair user, he jumped headfirst into the disabled community. He was pointed to MOMENTA by one of his therapists and has been a member since 2019. Robby actively gives back to the community through the outreach programs of MOMENTA and Reinvent Ability and is working with Tango 21 Dance Theater to explore ways where tango and disability can meet. Robby’s performance piece, “Am We Pain?," illustrates one person’s inner monologue as they explore how and why societal norms isolate and alienate and exacerbate the hurt that we all feel. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
